Which LTI Endpoint Is Right For You?
VitalSource’s endpoint adoptions are tailored to meet the needs of various institutions. Endpoints are typically selected based on the institution’s desired student experience when launching from the VitalSource LTI tool.
Below is information on each endpoint and when to use them. If you still have questions about which endpoint to choose, please contact your Customer Success Manager.
Endpoint Options
Endpoint Information
/materials
This is the most common adoption as it lets students view all their course materials in one location. Students are also able to launch into any of the course materials listed. Additionally, students enrolled in Equitable Access or Inclusive Access programs can manage their opt-in and opt-out status from here
*Note: the LMS (Learning Management System) Courses and Enrollments API must be installed for /materials to work.
/books
This endpoint displays one course from which the user has launched and its accompanying materials. Students enrolled in Equitable Access or Inclusive Access programs can manage their opt-in and opt-out status from this page as well for the specific course they launched from.
/books/SKU
When selected, the user is taken directly from the LMS into the specified book within Bookshelf.
/bookshelf
This endpoint takes users directly to VitalSource Bookshelf. If the user is logged into Bookshelf they will be taken directly to their homepage; if the user is not logged in, they will be taken to the Bookshelf login page.
/adopt
This LTI 1.3-only endpoint is instructor-facing and allows instructors to add deeplinks for their eBook course materials; meaning instructors can provide a link within the LMS course that takes students to a specific location within the eBook.
*Note: The /adopt requires LTI 1.3. More information on upgrading to LT1 1.3 can be found here: Reasons to Update to LT1 1.3.
