Studio Features: Table of Contents (TOC)

The Table of Contents (TOC) format and hierarchy in Studio is representative of how the TOC will appear when the EPUB is published to Bookshelf. Make sure the chapters are organized into folders and all titles are spaced and spelled correctly.

Click the product title in the upper left to return to the 'Products' screen.

The TOC hierarchy is determined by the bookmarks established in the PDF prior to import or built from scratch in Studio. Click on the move button on the far left of a row to move a folder or screen up/down or nest screens within another folder in the TOC.

NOTE: Titles from imported PDFs sometimes import in with missing spaces so make sure to check all titles after import.

Click the ‘Add’ button next to the ‘Tutorial’ button to 'Import Existing' content from another product within the library or add a 'Screen From Template' previously created or to add a new 'Content Screen', 'Scored Screen', or 'Folder' in the TOC. From the 'Add' button at the folder level you can also add 'Screen from Template', add a new 'Content Screen', 'Scored Screen', or 'Folder'.

Adding a Book Cover

The book cover thumbnail that displays on the Product screen and also in Bookshelf can be added on the TOC screen by clicking the ‘Edit’ button on the uppermost row in the TOC. Via the Cover Thumbnail window, you can browse to add/select your cover image and also assign or change the status of the row.

Product Level Defaults

When creating content within Studio, you can include assessment questions with settings for the desired question behavior. If you’d like to modify the settings for a high volume of questions, changing the product-level defaults may be the most efficient path.

When creating new question blocks in Studio, the settings for those blocks match the product-level default settings visible on the Settings tab. These default settings can be modified at the product level by clicking on the 'Settings' tab.

Product-level default settings are set separately for Content Screens versus Scored Screens. This allows you to create different settings for each screen type.

For example, you may want self-practice questions on Content Screens that permit unlimited attempts while the questions on Scored Screens are limited to two attempts.

As you save new product level default settings, you can apply them to new blocks going forward or to new blocks plus existing blocks.

NOTE: If you import Product A into Product B, the blocks in Product A retain their native settings. Product B’s product-level defaults are NOT applied to the imported content.

Block-level Overrides

Once you’ve selected your product-level default settings, you can override default settings at the individual block level via the ‘Settings’ within the block.

On Scored Screens, there are a number of default settings that cannot be overridden at the block level given that all question blocks on that screen are experienced by students as one activity rather than as self-contained question blocks. The table below indicates which settings are not available for block-level overrides on Scored Screens.
