Previous Blackboard External Tool Configuration – LTI 1.1 Installation

Add the Course Materials Link to Blackboard

With the following steps, the Blackboard Administrator will create a placement for Course Materials.

Please contact ltisupport@bncollege.com for your key and secret.

LTI External Tool Placement – Admin Panel Setup

  1. Click System Admin to go to the Administrator Panel.
  2. Click LTI Tool Providers.
  3. Click Register Provider Domain and enter the following:
    • Provider Domain Status
      • Provider Domain: lti.bncollege.com
      • Provider Domain Status: Approved
      • Secondary Hostnames: leave blank
    • Default Configuration
      • Default configuration: Set globally
      • Tool Provider Key: As provided by Barnes & Noble College
      • Tool Provider Secret: As provided by Barnes & Noble College
      • Tool Provider Custom Parameters (enter one parameter per line):
        • blackboard_username=@X@user.id@X@
        • blackboard_course_id=@X@course.pk_string@X@
    • Institution Policies
      • Send User Data: Send user data only over SSL
      • User Fields to Send: Check all the following boxes
        • Role in Course
        • Name
        • Email Address
      • Allow Membership Service Access: Yes
    • Click Submit.
  1. You will be returned to the LTI Tool Providers menu. Hover over the provider lti.bncollege.com and click the arrow icon again.
  2. Click Manage Placements.
    • In the Manage Placements menu, click Create Placement.
      • On the Create Placement page, enter the following in the fields:
        • Label: Course Materials
        • Description: leave blank
        • Handle: bncollege
        • Availability: Yes
        • Type: Course Tool, student
        • Launch in New Window: leave unchecked
        • Icon: Download the icon to your hard drive and upload it to the form.
        • Tool Provider URL: https://lti.bncollege.com/materials
        • Tool Provider Custom Parameters:
          • blackboard_username=@X@user.id@X@
          • blackboard_course_id=@X@course.pk_string@X@
    • Click Submit.

Note

We don’t recommend altering the name of the link, since it is referred to as “Course Materials” in support documentation for students and faculty.

Course-Level Setup: Course Materials (Classic View)

Once installed, the Course Materials link will be available in each course from the “Tools” or “Course Tools” (Ultra experience) menu. We recommend that the Blackboard administrator, instructional designer, or instructor set the link up in the course menu for more direct student access.

  1. Navigate to the desired course.
  2. Click the + sign in the left-hand navigation.
  3. Select Tool Link from the drop-down options.
  4. For Name, type Course Materials.
  5. Next, click the drop-down next to Type and select Course Materials.
  6. Check the box for Available to Users.
  7. Click Submit.

Course-Level Setup: Course Materials (Ultra View)

  1. Navigate to the desired course.
  2. Under Books & Tools in the left-hand navigation, click “View course & institution tools”
  3. Locate the Barnes & Noble Course Materials tool and click the + sign.
  4. This will add a link to your Course Content area.
  5. The link will be hidden from students by default. Click the eye icon to make the link available to students.

Blackboard Merges + Cross-listing Mapping Template

Please use the downloadable template (see link below) to communicate any merged or cross-listed courses. Completed templates should be emailed to your bookstore manager.
