Blackboard External Tool Configuration – LTI 1.3 New Installation
System Requirements
LTI 1.3 integration is available on SAAS Learn deployments and Learn 9.1 Q4 2019 Self and Managed hosted versions and above.
Blackboard LTI 1.3 Setup and Link Placement
Use these instructions if you do not already have the Course Materials LTI 1.1 link installed for First Day or First Day Complete.
LMS Admin/Course Set Up
1. Navigate to System Admin → Integrations → LTI Tool Providers, and click Register LTI 1.3 Tool.
2. Enter the Client ID provided by you BNC Implementation contact and click Submit.
3. Verify and set the following information:
- Client ID: Should be the same as the one BNC Implementation contact sent you
- Name: BNC Course Materials
- Description: BNC Course Materials 1.3
- Deployment ID: Copy this value and send it to your BNC Implementation contact
- Initiate Login URL: https://lti.bncollege.com/lti1-3/blackboard/login_initiations
- Tool Redirect URLs: https://lti.bncollege.com/oauth2callback
- Domains: lti.bncollege.com
- Tool Status: Approved
- Tool Provider Custom Parameters

4. Click Submit.
Managing Link Placements
After you have set the BNC Course Materials up as an LTI 1.3 Tool, you will need to place LTI links into courses.
Manage Placements
- Go to the System Admin panel.
- Click on LTI Tool Providers and find the Tool/Provider for BNC Course Materials 1.3 (lti.bncollege.com).
- Click the arrow next to the provider domain and click Manage Placements.
- Click Create Placement and enter the following:
- Placement Information
- Label: Enter what you would like to have appear in the course, for example, BNC Course Materials
- Handle: bnc_coursematerials
- Availability: Yes
- Type: Course tool
- Check “Allow student access”
- Launch in New Window: Check
- Tool Provider URL: https://lti.bncollege.com/materials

- Click Submit.
Course-Level Setup: Course Materials (Classic View)
Once installed, the Course Materials link will be available in each course from the “Tools” or “Course Tools” (Ultra experience) menu. We recommend that the Blackboard administrator, instructional designer, or instructor set the link up in the course menu for more direct student access.
- Navigate to the desired course.
- Click the + sign in the left-hand navigation.
- Select Tool Link from the drop-down options.
- For Name, type BNC Course Materials.
- Next, click the drop-down next to Type and select BNC Course Materials.
- Check the box for Available to Users.
- Click Submit.
Course-Level Setup: Course Materials (Ultra View)
- Navigate to the desired course.
- Under Books & Tools in the left-hand navigation, click “View course & institution tools”
- Locate the BNC Course Materials tool and click the + sign.
- This will add a link to your Course Content area.
- The link will be hidden from students by default. Click the eye icon to make the link available to students.
