What is Deep Linking?
Deep linking is a powerful feature that allows you to:
1. Create LTI links directly to specific locations within eBooks delivered in BookShelf
2. Generate LTI links to specific locations within courseware delivered via our Partner Integration (SSO) with many of our publishing partners
Why is Deep Linking Important?
If you plan to use Partner Integration (SSO) for the upcoming term, deep linking is essential for a seamless experience. It allows instructors to link directly to specific content, enhancing the learning experience for students.
Checking Your Deep Linking Status
If you're unsure whether deep linking is set up for your institution:
1. Review your LTI integration with VitalSource
2. Check for any historical usage of our deep linking functionality
If you haven't seen any usage, it's likely that the feature isn't currently available to your end users.
Setting Up Deep Linking
Note: If you already have our LTI tool installed, you don't need a new installation. Deep linking is an additional feature of our existing LTI tooling.
To Set Up Deep Linking:
1. Visit the Implement the Deep Linking Tool in the LMS for Courseware Integrations Success to view a video and written instructions about how to implement the deep linking tool in the LMS.
- To view instructions specific to your LMS, please visit Integrate with VitalSource and choose the LTI 1.3 Tool Setup and Link Placement article that corresponds with your LMS. For example, if your institution uses Canvas, select the Canvas LTI 1.3 Tool Setup and Link Placement page.
2. Scroll to the section titled Using the VitalSource Content Deeplinking Interface.
3. Follow the instructions provided to enable and configure deep linking.
