Deep-linking into the Bedford Collection via your LMS

VitalSource now supports Explore Subscription deep linking through your LTI-compliant LMS/portal. Please confirm with your LMS admin that the appropriate external tool has been configured within your LMS before proceeding.

Note: A pre-existing integration with VitalSource is required for setting up Explore collection deep linking. If you need to set up the integration with VitalSource, please click on the name of your Learning Management System (LMS) below to access instructions.

Prior to creating links in your course, identify which Bedford Bookshelf (BBS) Collection you are using and the VitalSource Subscription SKU.

  • The Explore Subscription SKU (VBID)
    • The Bedford Bookshelf Collection: English
      • Subscription SKU (VBID): SUB7449856969R180
    • The Bedford Bookshelf Collection: American History
      • Subscription SKU (VBID): SUB5486693377R180
    • The Bedford Bookshelf Collection: World/Euro/West
      • Subscription SKU (VBID): SUB6460990691R180
    • Custom Bedford Bookshelf:
      • Please contact your sales representative for SKU VBID information.

The Prefile Deep Link Template for your BBS Collection converts your links to deep links.  
Each Deep Bedford Collection deep link template is available at the bottom of this page.  

  • English Bedford Bookshelf - Prefilled template
  • American History Bedford Bookshelf - Prefilled template
  • World, European, and Western Civilization Bedford Bookshelf - Prefilled template  

For custom Bedford Collection, please contact your sales representative.

Once you have gathered this information and selected the specific book you would like students to access, you will be able to create your specific links.

The Following Use Cases are Supported:

LAUNCHING STUDENTS TO A SPECIFIC BOOK WITHIN THE BEDFORD COLLECTION

  • The format of the link:
    •  https://bc.vitalsource.com/subscriptions/:entersubscriptionSku(VBID)/books/:enterbookSku(vbid)
    • ‘enterbookSku(vbid) Representing the ISBN of the Book.
  • Here is an example BBS English Collection (SUB7449856969R180) and 50 Essays (eISBN: 9781319483616)
    • https://bc.vitalsource.com/subscriptions/SUB7449856969R180/books/9781319483616
  • Please note that the prefilled template at the bottom of the page includes the ISBN for every title within the Bedford Collection.

LAUNCHING STUDENTS TO A SPECIFIC PAGE BOOK WITHIN A BOOK THAT IS PART OF THE BEDFORD COLLECTION: 

To create a deep link to content, you must have access to the content via the LMS integration. Also, verify that you're creating a link to the correct VitalSource SKU before sending it to others.

  1. In Bookshelf, navigate to the location of the book that you want to link to.
  2. In the Table of Contents, click the three-dot icon, then click Copy Page URL.
  3. A pop-up will appear with the URL. Click Copy.
  4. Open the prefile Deep-Linking template for the Bedford Collection
  5. Search for the individual title within the template, then paste the copied URL in column E: ‘Paste Copied Page URL from Bookshelf’
  6. Copy the URL in Column D to distribute the link to your content from within your LMS.
