Macmillan Partner Integration

LTI 1.3 Partner Integration Featureset:

  • Single Sign-on (SSO) provides a frictionless delivery & access experience for students via VitalSource Launch.
  • Deeplink proxying enables direct access to specific assignments and locations within your platform via the VitalSource LTI tool.
  • Assignments & Grades Proxy Service replaces the Basic Outcomes service from previous LTI versions and removes the strict one-to-one relationship between a resource link and a line item.

Faculty Sign-Up Process with an Achieve Courseware Product: 

  • To get started, you'll need to sign up for an Achieve faculty account with Macmillan here Higher Ed Community.
  • As a part of this process, you’ll also receive a sample course from your Macmillan rep to get started with

Please be aware that the VitalSource LTI tool may be listed under a different name depending on your school. To confirm the exact name, please contact your bookstore manager.

Course Creation Process:

  • To get started, you’ll want to log in directly to Achieve
  • From here, you can create a brand new course, or copy an existing course.
  • When creating the course, you’ll be asked to confirm the LMS integration. Please note that this selection will not impact this integration pattern.
  • If you plan on utilizing assignments and resources in your course, you’ll want to set this up when working in your Achieve course.
  • For further guidance on building a new Achieve course, please refer to Macmillan's guide Macmillan Learning Support. For support, please contact your Macmillan rep.

Course Linking Process:

  • Launch the VitalSource LTI “Course Materials” tool from your course*
  • Once you launch the tool, you should see your adopted item card on the course dashboard
  • Click the “Launch Courseware” button. This will redirect you to the Achieve site
    • Note that you’ll need to sign in the first time, but will not be required to do so after the initial sign in
  • Once in Achieve, you will want to select “Connect with Achieve.” Locate the course you created directly in Achieve, and select the “Associate” button under the “Course Tools” column
  • Your Achieve course is now integrated.

*Please be aware that the VitalSource LTI tool named by your book store and LMS administrator. To confirm the tool name, please contact your team.

Creating Deep Links:

  • To create deep links within your LMS course to link to assignments and content within Achieve, you will need to use the VitalSource LTI deep linking tool.
    • Note: The Macmillan LTI tool is not needed in this integration pattern. Only using the VitalSource LTI tooling is necessary.
  • Once you launch the tool, you will see the paired content. Click the “Open Publisher Tool” button
  • This will open the Achieve TOC and deep linking tool. Follow the prompts to select the desired content that you’d like to have linked in your LMS

    • You may need to discuss this tool’s location within your LMS with your administrator.
